During Min Jin Lee's Harvard talk, the author of Pachinko which was also a hit on AppleTV, she tells a funny story about a past interview she had. A journalist once asked her "What are Koreans like?". If someone asked me that question, it would be really difficult to answer briefly in just one simple sentence. But when I heard her answer, I totally related and laughed. She said "Koreans like to dance!" Wow, I think it's a great simple, funny and 100% right answer. 🤣

Nowadays, Korean society is becoming more diverse and changing. People used to think it was ideal to have a prestigious university background, a stable job, and a marriage, while people who didn't or rebelled against it were ignored and looked down upon. It's now easier to live a happy life doing what you love and following your dreams, without worrying about what others think. In recent years, society has become more open and honest.
The TV show "Street Woman Fighter" was a huge hit all across Korea. It featured girls who are amazing dancers as the main characters. People are expressing their desire to dance more and more. This has made dance studios really popular. There are people who want to dance as a career, as a hobby, or as an alternative form of exercise.
1Million Dance Studio
1MILLION is an exceptionally skilled dance crew that represents Korean dance. They have 26.2 million subscribers on YouTube and choreograph and teach dances for K-pop idol groups.
They've been teaching dance at their studio since 2014. If you like dancing or K-pop, I highly recommend dropping by for a class. The instructors can teach in English as well, and many international students attend. The classes don't teach full dances. Instead, they focus on the most important parts. This way, students can learn one song per class.
Which Dance Genres are Taught at 1Million Dance Studio
Dance classes cover Korean songs, international hits, freestyle, contemporary jazz, and more. Instructors can choose the music and choreography for their classes. Students can experience a variety of dance styles.
1Million Dance Studio Class Levels
Class times and instructors vary daily. Check out the schedule on the site to pick a class based on your preferred time, level, and teacher. Classes run for 1 hour and 20 minutes. Weekday classes start at 5 PM or 5:30 PM. Weekend classes start at 3:30 PM.
- Step By 1M: For people who are new to dance or want to learn the basics.
- Learner: Beginner/intermediate level for new dancers.
- Master: Intermediate/advanced level for experienced dancers.
- Popup Class: Intermediate/advanced level class with guest choreographer.

How much does it cost to go to 1MILLION Dance Studio?

🔴 Tickets can be purchased online via the website or Studio App ('1million Dance Studio' app), or offline at 1MILLION's information desk. You can sign up on the site, purchase your ticket, and book classes.
⚠️ All class passes must be used within one month from the start date of the classes.
⚠️ Classes for the week are scheduled every Sunday at 3 PM Korean time. Each class lasts 1 hour and 20 minutes.
⚠️ Bring your own water or drinks to have during class.
⚠️ Bring your phone and have the QR code ready. Before class, people mark their water bottles in line outside the classroom. They scan their QR codes and have their identity verified by a check of their profile photo in order and enter the classroom 10 minutes before class starts. To get the QR code, press the square icon in the top right of the '1million Dance Studio' app's main screen. If you want a front row spot, get there early. Standing at the back can make it hard to see the instructor clearly. When I arrived 40 minutes early once, I was only fourth in line.
